ERMA BOMBECK WRITERS' WORKSHOP NEWSLETTER

Dear writer,

Exciting news. Registration is now open for the 2010 Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop at the University of Dayton.

You can get information about the workshop and registration by clicking here.

I'm very, very excited about this year's line-up of keynote speakers and workshop faculty. Our presenters come from a lot of fields: traditional column-writing, television, blogging, podcasting, twittering, photography, memoirs, fiction and stand-up. Some favorite faculty from past years are coming back, and we have plenty of new, very funny & accomplished folks to keep the conversations fresh.

Ah, conversations. That's where you come in. What happens in the workshop sessions is great. Really. But what happens between them in the hallways, lounges and bars is just as important for what we do -- those unexpected moments where you find yourself sitting next to another writer and talking about your craft and your markets.

We look forward to seeing you in April in Dayton to be a part of the conversations.

Some housekeeping: The 2008 workshop sold out in three days, disappointing more than 200 writers on our waiting list. 2006 sold out in two weeks. If you plan to come, register early.

Because the holidays are upon us, registration makes a terrific gift for the writer you love. You can register in one name and then switch your registration to a friend or loved one to keep it a holiday surprise.

Keep writing,
Matthew Dewald
Workshop director

Published lately? Drop me a note at erma@udayton.edu with relevant links for the next newsletter (and do the new workshop director a favor by mentioning if you're past workshop attendee or speaker).

If you didn't attend, you can still purchase the 2008 workshop recordings for just $129.
(The 2006 Bombeck Workshop recordings are still available, too.)

From Erma’s desk ...
“I wouldn't change my beat for anything else in the newspaper. Sometimes as I sift through the grim, the ugly, the shocking, I recoil here between the hot water heater and the detergent and I get my perspective. Screaming kids, unpaid bills, green leftovers, husbands behind newspapers, basketballs in the bathroom. They're real ... they're warm ... they're the only bit of normalcy left in this cockeyed world, and I'm going to cling to it like life itself.”

Our 2010 keynoters…
GAIL COLLINS
Gail Collins, author When Everything Changed, talks about one book that helped change it.

BILL SCHEFT
Working for David Letterman is one thing, but being interviewed by the man too? Scheft dives in.

STEVE DOOCY
You might know Steve Doocy for his work on Fox & Friends. You should also know his philanthropic work for organizations such as the Wounded Warriors Project, which is the recipient of all proceeds from his latest book, Tales from the Dad Side.

LORETTA LAROCHE
Maybe it's time you just tell everyone what you really think.

W. BRUCE CAMERON
