Canadian Humorist Gordon Kirkland Wins
Second Stephen Leacock Award of Merit For Humour

Canadian author, entertainer and syndicated columnist Gordon Kirkland
has won the Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for the second time. This
year’s award was for his book Never Stand Behind A Loaded Horse
(Thistledown.) His first book, Justice Is Blind – And Her Dog Just Peed
In My Cornflakes also received the award in 2000. It is one of the most
prestigious book awards in Canada.

“It is a great honor to have my first two books placed among the best in
Canadian humor,” said Kirkland.

The author was in attendance at the awards ceremony held in Orillia,
Ontario earlier today at the home of Stephen Leacock (1869-1947) for
whom the award is named. Leacock is considered to be the father of
Canadian humor writing.

“A few days before the book was released the distributor that was handling it for the publisher strongly suggested that the cover should be changed to make it more like the cover of the previous book, because it had received the Leacock Award of Merit,” the author quipped. “I’m pretty sure the recognition was for my writing, not the cover design and apparently the Leacock Associates who bestow the award agree.”

Kirkland is currently on a multi-city tour in support of his latest book, When My Mind Wanders It Brings Back Souvenirs (AuthorHouse.) He took time off from the tour to attend the Leacock event, and will be heading back out next week for appearances in Oklahoma City, Little Rock, Memphis, Jackson, Nashville, and Dallas.

On May 7, 2005, he will be at the famous That Bookstore In Blytheville, in tiny Blytheville, Arkansas. This stalwart independent bookstore is a tour stop for hundreds of top name authors from John Grisham to Bill Clinton.

In June he will be appearing with AuthorHouse at BookExpo-America in New York, NY.

Kirkland resides in Pitt Meadows, BC near Vancouver with his wife Diane. They have two sons Mike and Brad. Fore more information about the author see www.gordonkirkland.com.
