Philadelphia 2007: It’s like an “all-inclusive” working vacation
By Stu Bykofsky, columnist and 31st Annual NSNC Conference Chair

Think of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists 31st Annual Conference, June 21-24, 2007,in historic Philadelphia,as an “all-inclusive,”like those resorts in the islands.

For the first time, there is a cap on the number of attendees. Due to the size of two of the venues, we max out at 160 -- counting columnists, guests and non-members.

At Philly 2007, every bar is an “open bar.” If you are a columnist worth your salt, that’s a savings (at hotel bar prices) of at least $25 a day, and maybe as much as $100.

Every Continental breakfast is included. Every lunch. Every dinner. Every cocktail, every glass or wine, soda, juice...you name it.

To register for the conference online, go to www.columnists.com.

To book your room at the Sofitel, call the toll-free number: (877) 411-7634. Mention NSNC and the $159 rate.

That’s the daily room rate (plus tax, but fitness room included) at the sleek, gleaming, luxury Sofitel,in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, a stone’s throw from leafy Rittenhouse Square. It’s a great rate negotiated by NSNC, but still a bit high. To lessen the bite, some more numbers:

The registration fee. That’s the “early bird” rate for members registering by April 1 - no fooling. The “early bird” rate is $200 for guests and $350 for non-members.

After April 1, members will pay $325, guests will pay $250 and non-members will pay $450. Register early, save a lot.
